LITANY OF ST. JOAN OF FRANCE (1464–1505)

(For private use only)

Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, hear us, Christ, graciously hear us.

God the Father of heaven,     have mercy on us
God the Son, Redeemer of the world,
God the Holy Ghost,
Holy Trinity, one God,

Jesus, Divine Spouse of St. Joan our Mother,     have mercy on us

Holy Mary, Mother of God,     pray for us.

St. Joan, devout from your infancy,
St. Joan, who received the espousal ring from Jesus Himself,
St. Joan, always intent on the Divine Will,
St. Joan, model of virgins and spouses,
St. Joan, victim of Divine Love,
St. Joan, splendor of patience,
St. Joan, happy to be scorned by the mighty of this world,
St. Joan, who in God alone found comfort,
St. Joan, who prayed for your enemies,
St. Joan, opposed to the ways of the world,
St. Joan, who ever waged war against the flesh,
St. Joan, who fled from the delights of the world,
St. Joan, who despised all that is not of God,
St. Joan, lover of austerity,
St. Joan, who nourished the poor,
5t. Joan, devoted to the mystery of the Word Incarnate,
St. Joan, imitator of the “Ten Pleasures” of the Mother of God,
St. Joan, Foundress of the Order of the Annunciade,
St. Joan, intent on the salvation of your spiritual daughters,
St. Joan, surrounded by light at the hour of death,
St. Joan, whose remains were desecrated and burned by heretics,
St. Joan, refuge of the sick,
St. Joan, worker of miracles,
St. Joan, honor of France,
St. Joan, glory of Queens,
St. Joan, more resplendent in virtues than in Royal Lilies of France.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,     spare us, O Lord,
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,     graciously hear us,
O Lord, Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,     have mercy on us.

V. St. Joan, our Mother, pray for us,
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

LET US PRAY
God our Father, you called St. Joan of France to found an order of consecrated virgins to imitate the virtues of the Glorious Virgin Mother of your Son. By her example and prayers, may we come to rejoice in life eternal, through imitating the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

Prayer composed by St. Joan of France,
known as
“THE PRAYER OF MADAME.”

Holy Mary, most worthy Mother of Jesus, make me Thy worthy handmaid; so favor me as to be always in Thy grace, and may every person I love, be loved by me because they love Thee. Grant me also this favor, that every person who loves Thee may also love me, in order that finally we may come to Thee to praise and love our good God and Thee in like manner eternally. Amen.

The Chaplet of the Ten Evangelical Virtues

V. In Your Conception, O Virgin Mary, You were Immaculate.
R. Pray for us to the Father whose son, Jesus, you brought forth into the world.

Let us pray.
Father, You prepared the Virgin Mary to be the worthy mother of Your Son. You let her share beforehand in the salvation Christ would bring by His death, and kept her sinless from the first moment of her conception. Help us by her prayers to live in Your presence without sin. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.
R. Amen.
